Water heaters are generally low maintenance. However, you may run into some issues or problems every once and awhile. Fortunately, most broken water heater problems can be solved without a professional. Here are some water heater troubleshooting tips.
Red or Brown Hot Water
This is caused from rust and corrosion from the inside of the water heater. This is a common problem in old tanks. Sediment may also be entering your water from burst pipes. This can be solved by flushing out your water heater. We advise to flush out your system every year and more often if you have high water usage.
A Strange Odor
One of the most awful problems with water heaters is smelly water. Most compare it to a rotten egg. This problem is caused from built up bacteria. This problem can be solved by cleaning out your water heater with hydrogen peroxide or replacing your anode rod.
Scalding Water
Of course, the first step is to check the water heater thermostat. It should be set at 120 degrees. If the temperature is fine, checking the actually thermostat for malfunction would be the next step. Another problem that would cause this issue, is a malfunctioning heating element. Sometimes heating elements short out and heat non-stop. Replacing the heating element can solve this broken water heater problem.
