5 Tips to Conserve Water
1. Use less hot water: Use short bursts of water instead of letting the faucet run when washing hands, dishes, ect. Of course, taking shorter showers will reduce water usage.
2. Only run fully loaded dishwasher and clothes washing machine: You’ll use the same amount of water whether you run a full load or a partial load.
3. Insulate your pipes: It’s easy and cheap to insulate your water pipes with pre-slit foam pipe insulation. You’ll get hot water faster plus avoid wasting water and energy while it heats up.
4. Keep a bottle of drinking water in the fridge.
Running water to cool it off for drinking water is unnecessary . Store your bottles in the fridge to cool them. If you are filling water bottles to take camping or hiking, consider buying a personal water filter which allows you to drink water safely from rivers or lakes or any body of water.
5. Consider a tankless water heater: If it is time to upgrade, consider upgrading to a tankless unit (also known as an on-demand water heater). It heats water faster and only when you need it – water savings and energy savings.
